Time Management and Pie

Let’s face it, pandas aren’t good at time management. They don’t need to be…not real pandas. But this one does, and she’s not. I never have been and I hoped that in grad school I would get better. I mean, I always manage to get everything done, but it’s always in a huge furry at the end. I think that’s how I work best though. I’ve really been trying hard to keep up with all of the readings for my classes this semester though. I figure it’s the last semester, so I should try to give it my all, but I’m finding that it’s leaving little time for anything else. Including blogging…although considering that I spend most of my time reading articles about museum ethics and material culture or watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I’m not sure any of that is really blog-worthy.

I’ve been really missing out on cooking lately though, and I’ve found that it really helps me de-stress. So when I came home from class on Wednesday with a paper to write that I didn’t know about, I needed to bake something. I had a recipe in mind for the past week, but hadn’t had the time or some of the ingredients, but finally the stars had aligned and I was ready for an afternoon in the kitchen.

My friend, Hannah, (who’s in the same Master’s program as me) sent me Pillsbury’s Flickr page a few weeks ago. It was love at first sight. I found recipe after recipe that I wanted to try. I had a lot of apples that I needed to use, so I decided on an apple pie, which only fueled my  desire for Fall to come. I found this amazing recipe. Now I have to admit, this was the first pie I’ve made. I’ve helped my mom make pies when I was little, but this was the first one where I was in charge (I did have some help from Mike–I think he was more interested in eating the apples though!) I followed the recipe exactly and I have to say, it turned out delicious. Here are some pictures of the process:

This next picture is of the apples after the cream and vanilla has been added:

Adding the mixture

Painting on the egg white and sprinkling with sugar!

And now for the finished product:

Fresh out of the oven!

The pie didn’t last long. I may or may not, but did, have three pieces myself. Don’t judge. I was at least nice and shared with others.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I’m going out of town for a long weekend and will have lots to post about it.

Yeah, I just feel swamped already and I don’t think I’m out of my grumpy summer mood completely either. 3 months. Just 3 months.
